Athabasca Falls is quite possibly the most popular waterfall in the Canadian Rockies. There are literally so many people here at any given time, it's almost like walking through the streets of New York City during the Friday evening rush hour. Even without the crowds, don't come here expecting solitude. The falls are one of the most powerful and impressive in the Rockies. Even if it's not raining, you may still want to wear gortex when you visit the falls, or you'll get soaked head to toe from the ever-present spray.

To reach the falls, drive south of the Jasper Townsite along Highway 93 for about 28 km to Highway 93A, and turn right at the signs for Athabasca Falls. Alternately, you can drive down 93A to the falls, the highway crosses the Athabasca River immediately downstream of the falls, so they are impossible to miss. From the parking area, a paved trail leads to the perpetually wet viewpoints. From here, Kerkeslin Falls can be seen across the Athabasca Valley, dropping down the large, exposed canyon on Mt. Kerkeslin.

Number one problem here is spray. There is always lots of it. When I visited the falls, there were puddles in the viewing area which were formed solely from the spray. You shouldn't need a lens any wider than 28mm, and I think 35mm should suffice from certain viewpoints, so there aren't any special needs here (except maybe lens wipes).
