FARAWAY FALLS
   Lewis County, Washington

[ Physical Makeup ]  [ Pictures ]  [ Maps ]  [ Update History ]  [ User Comments ]

This waterfall is marked on the USGS maps as draining from a small tarn northeast of Faraway Rock. The falls drain an area of less than 1/4 of a square mile, however, and usually only flow noticeably during the absolute peak of snowmelt. I have only noticed the falls flowing fairly well once, that being when I took this picture. I imagine the falls flow into mid-July, but won't last much after that, if it even lasts that long. This picture shows most of the falls, I didn't realize I cut off the top of the falls until I got home and examine the picture.

HISTORY AND NAMING INFORMATION

  • FARAWAY FALLS is the name of this waterfall.

LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS

This waterfall is best seen from Highway 706, near Louise Lake, in Mt. Rainier National Park. Closer approach is possible, and I will of course investigate at a later date. That method of access, however, is likely only of interest to those few die-hard waterfall hunters out there willing to go after a minor waterfall such as this. For the rest of you, the falls are best seen just shy of 1 mile east of Sunbeam Creek, or about 6/10 of a mile west of the hairpin curve at The Bench, near the Snow Lakes Trailhead.
