DEWEY CREEK FALLS
   Pierce County, Washington

[ Physical Makeup ]  [ Pictures ]  [ Maps ]  [ Update History ]  [ User Comments ]

For years, each time I've come to Mt. Rainier National Park, I've noticed a patch of white along what I thought was Dewey Creek, which can be seen as you drive south along Highway 123 from Cayuse Pass. I had always brushed it off as snow, because it never seemed to be there when the snow was melted. But, I recently was able to confirm that it is, indeed a waterfall. The falls are plainly visible, up on the hillside, straight in front of you, and you drive down the first switchback below Cayuse Pass, heading south on 123. The best place to pull out and view the falls is the turnout just before the road starts a long, straight descent towards Dewey Creek. You'll see the falls straight ahead of you if you're watching carefully. Reaching the falls on foot, however, would likely entail a bushwhack of epic proportions. It might be safest to take a look through binoculars from the side of the road.
