JUMP CREEK FALLS
   Owyhee County, Idaho

[ Physical Makeup ]  [ Pictures ]  [ Maps ]  [ Update History ]  [ User Comments ]

This has got to be one of the most gorgeous places in Idaho (no pun intended). Jump Creek has sliced itself one of the most beautiful canyons that I've ever seen (yes, better than the Grand Canyon), and to top it all off, there is a waterfall in it! Reaching the falls requires a short ford of Jump Creek, and, unfortunately, there is no bridge across the creek. However, the creek is small enough that unless the spring melt is in effect, crossing is not an issue. The falls flow year round, as Jump Creek has a large watershed fed by springs, but it is still reduced to a trickle in the summer.

HISTORY AND NAMING INFORMATION

  • JUMP CREEK FALLS is the Official name of this waterfall.

LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS

easy access

In the southwestern corner of Idaho, drive south from the Snake River on US 95 to Poison Creek Road, which is 2.5 miles south of the junction of US 95 and SR 55. Follow Poison Creek Road for 3.5 miles to a 4 way intersection and turn left onto the unnamed gravel road. Follow this route for .5 mile, then turn right onto a dirt road. The no trespassing signs posted do not regard the canyon area. This is the public access to the canyon. In .4 mile, the road forks, the lower of which is a private driveway, and the upper continues on to the parking area for the canyon. The trail begins at the bottom of the hill at the end of the road, and winds it's way into the canyon, behind huge boulders, across the stream, and finally to the falls in .2 mile.
