Lillian Falls can be seen 2 miles along the Black Creek Trail en route to Waldo Lake. The falls cascade down a series of mossy steps for about 70 feet.

HISTORY AND NAMING INFORMATION

  • Lillian Falls is the Official name of this waterfall.
  • Known Alternate Names: Lithan Falls

The falls bear the name of Lillian Ryker McGillvrey, who's father Augustus Ryker was the US Forest Service employee responsible for constructing the original trail up the Black Creek valley to Waldo Lake. Due to a mapping error some time in the 1930s where the letters in Lillian bled together to appear as "Lithan" a sign was erected at the falls calling it out with the incorrect name. This persisted until the mid 1980s when the Oregon Georgraphic Names Board was able to dispatch someone to ensure the error was corrected.
