This is a name which was found on a map of state geographic features released by the Army Corp of Engineers circa the 1970s. The Belle River is the name once applied to what is now known as Long Creek. Charles Barnes, member of the Press Party in 1890, mentions seeing tributary waterfalls streaming into the Belle River in his expedition notes, but doesn't give any specifics to the location. There is a substantial canyon in the mile above the mouth of the creek, so its likely that the falls may occur there.
