Whatcom Creek crashes down one final waterfall just before entering Bellingham Bay. The falls are located in Marine Heritage Park just above the industrial district in downtown Bellingham, right underneath the Dupont Street bridge over Whatcom Creek. The Whatcom Creek trail descends either side of the falls and crosses the creek on a bridge below the falls. Though this is the least impressive of the four waterfalls on Whatcom Creek, it's the most accessible. It's best seen during the late fall and winter months when the surrounding trees don't block the perspectives from the bridge below the falls. Best views are from the bridge and on the right side of the creek 1/2 way between Dupont Street and the footbridge.
- Lower Whatcom Falls is the Official name of this waterfall.
Coming into Bellingham along I-5 from the south, exit at Lakeway Drive and turn left. Follow Lakeway to a 5 way intersection, and take the second to the right street (Holly St). Follow Holly St to Prospect St, which then turns into Dupont Street just before crossing Whatcom Creek above the falls, a total of about 1.1 miles from I-5. There is 2 hour parking on the far (North) side of the bridge.
