This is the best of the three waterfalls in Whatcom Falls Park, and likely the best along the creek. Located 5 minutes from downtown Bellingham, this is an excellent quick escape from the city (regardless of how small). Good news for all you waterfall fans out there. All of the major waterfalls within Whatcom Falls Park seem to have survived the Olympic Pipeline explosion unscathed. The explosion occurred much further downstream than I originally thought, and on a tributary too. As you can see, Whatcom Falls is an outstanding slow shutter study, either from the bridge, or from an more unusual view at the falls' brink.
- Whatcom Falls is the Official name of this waterfall.
To reach this site, drive to Bellingham on I-5 and exit on Lakeway Drive, turning east, and proceed about 2 miles to the signed Whatcom Falls Park. Follow the road to the parking area near the fish hatchery. The falls are immediately next to the stone bridge 50 feet from the parking area.
