Lower Step Falls is the second of two major waterfalls along Step Creek as it spills down the impressive Step Canyon below the breached crater of Mount St. Helens. The falls appear to drop about 100 feet and can be seen in tandem with Step Falls from most perspectives. We attempted to survey the falls in August 2011 but found that in order to view the falls in full a ford of Loowit Creek was necessary and we were not prepared to undertake the crossing. The falls can be partially seen from the Loowit Trail immediately east of the Loowit Creek ford but are best seen from several hundred feet to the west of Loowit Creek. See the link to the Step Falls page below for more information.
