For as long as I can remember, I've been facinated
with falling water. I don't quite know why, but
I can't stay away. I created this website initially
to display some of my pictures, but it evolved
into something much bigger. Cataloged within this
site is information on almost 3,000 waterfalls
in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia.
Since this site's inception in 1998, I've made
drastic changes each time I've overhauled the
website - mostly dealing with the appearance. In
June of 2003, however, I launched the new version
of the site as my first foray into website programming
involving database interactivity. The result
wasn't quite pretty, but it was functional. After
a year and a half of playing with the capabilities
of my databases, I've launched this latest version
of the website, easily my most ambitious project
to date. With this update, I've finally
added the interactivity and functionality that
I have wanted for almost
two years, but could never implement.
All of the previous functionality is still present,
but I have added many new features - some not
so noticable, some very useful. To start
with, the Home page once again contains a list
of the most recently updated waterfalls (long
time visitors will remember this from older versions
of the site). The Best
of the Northwest page has been expanded to include the 25 Best
waterfalls in each State. The Search tool
now has Full Text support and is much more specific
in it's
results. I've added two more methods of
browsing the database - via Watershed and via
Locale. Browsing via Watershed (as well
as via Regions) can now be done with a new Flash
map, and to top it off, finding additional
waterfalls close to any specific waterfall is
now much easier.
Like the previous version, a few pages have
been shifted and renamed. The only notable
change in this department is the renaming of
the Classification page to the Help
Page. If
you have any trouble navigating the site, or
understanding any of the information present,
check the Help Page first, or click on the ? anywhere on the site
for details on that particular subject. Otherwise,
please contact me if you have any questions or
are having trouble finding something you're
looking for.
